DESCRIPTION: APW - Philadelphia Watch Co, 19J, 16S (52.3mm case diameter), coin silver drum style original P.W.Co. OF case with spring-loaded hunting rear, attractive diagonal reeding to bezel, band, and rear perimeter, white enamel SS dial, KWKS (a key is included as pictured), fully capped lever escapement with attractive long lever, gold balance jewel disk and distinctive gold cap setting for lever and escape wheel, fishscale pattern nickel damascene, mvt marked "Paulus' Patents," s#3657. An attractive example from this maker. Please note that this watch is listed among our American category due to this maker's collectible interest historically having been greatest among collectors of American watches, but Philadelphia Watch Co. movements are believed to have been substantially made and finished in Switzerland before shipping to the American market.
CONDITION: Mvt: Running, mvt with a bit of play within case, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, mild toning to plates and visible portion of barrel, some scattered mild fine to micro-fine scratches and tiny dark spots to plates, missing setting arbor escutcheon, one mismatched balance jewel setting screw; dial with scratch to right side of seconds-register, scattered lesser fine surface scratches elsewhere, few very faint hls; fine hands of mismatched colors with minor oxide, hour and minute are blue, seconds-hand is plum colored; case shows very light wear, an attractive moderate external patina, fine scratches to rear and cuvette, subtle very shallow dent toward lower center, some denting to upper rear shoulder near edge, cuvette with some play at its hinge and opened cuvette falls closed freely with gravity, case rear lift spring is not making contact with lid through final portion of opening range allowing lid to tip slightly back toward closed with gravity; tight bow, push shows light wear; glass crystal with scattered scratches and nicks.
